Iraq Body Count Scrolling Web Counters:
Copyright and Permissions

Several webmasters have asked whether they may adapt these counters for their own use. My answer is yes under the following conditions:

1. The counters may only be used in an anti-war (or pro-social justice) context.
2. The counters must be used to mourn the deaths they count, and may not be used in a context that celebrates those deaths.
3. The counters must be used for non-commercial purposes.
4. You must impose these same conditions on anyone who copies the counters from your site.
5. You must display the following comment at the top of any of the JavaScript files you use:

   /*
    * JavaScript animation code by David Flanagan for IraqBodyCount.org
    * Copyright (c) 2003 by David Flanagan. All Rights Reserved.
    * Free for non-commercial, anti-war use.  
    */
   

6. If you want to use and adapt the installation instructions for the counters, you must delete the tech-support links to my e-mail address, and must add the following comment to the top of the HTML files:

Contact me for guidance (contact info is under the tech-support links) if you are unsure whether your proposed use qualifies. If so, I'd be happy to supply you with uncompressed and fully-commented versions of the JavaScript files which will probably be easier to adapt for your own purposes.
